Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) is native to the Northern Rivers. Not "grows well here". Native. From here.
The world's tea tree oil industry started in this district, and the breeding work that built it was done at Lismore in the 1980s. Most of the world's tea tree still grows within an hour of our gate. Our family has been part of that story for more than twenty years, growing tea tree on the creek flats of the Teven valley, a few minutes inland from Ballina.
The mulch is not a sideline we bought in to resell. It is what our harvest produces, from our own paddocks, processed beside the shed. If you want to know exactly where your mulch came from, we can point at the rows.
How tea tree becomes mulch
Grow and cut
Tea tree is a coppice crop. Each year the bushes are cut close to the ground at harvest, and they shoot straight back, the same plants harvested year after year. Harvest runs roughly July to October here.
Mulch on site
The cut tea tree is processed right here on the farm into the fine, fibrous mulch this plant is known for: soft strands, fine twigs and papery bark, with nothing added and nothing dyed.
Load and deliver
We load our own truck and deliver by the cubic metre across the Northern Rivers. Because harvest lines up with late winter, the freshest mulch of the year arrives right when gardens want it.

We are a farm, not a call centre. There is no online cart, no quote form and no email queue, because a two minute conversation sorts out what forms never can: how big your beds really are, whether the truck can get down your driveway, and which day suits the run to your town.
